3 Prenatal Care Tips You Should Know

I used to tell myself that I would dedicate myself to getting healthy "later," but "later" never came. I ate very unhealthy foods and always told myself I would start eating healthier "tomorrow." I needed to start exercising, but I would tell myself I would join the gym "next month." When I reached a milestone birthday, I realized that I had set so many health goals that had come and gone in the past decade and had to finally get serious about getting healthy. I then began researching health tips online and found quite a few that inspired me to finally start eating healthy and getting into shape. I still have a ways to go, but I am finally now on the way to achieving my goals! I know so many health blogs inspired me, so I decided to create one of my own to share my health tips on!

Throughout your pregnancy, you're going to go through a lot of changes, from what you eat and what you crave to hormonal changes that could feel nearly manic at times. During your pregnancy, there are a lot of things you should do in order to keep yourself and your baby healthy. To keep you both healthy, read on for a few prenatal tips.

1. Take Prenatal Vitamins

Taking prenatal vitamins is going to help you remain healthy during your pregnancy. You're going to be giving a lot of your vitamins to your baby, so you're going to be lacking in vitamins. If you aren't taking prenatal vitamins, you aren't going to be able to provide for your baby properly. You may also be lacking vitamins due to issues such as nausea and vomiting and possibly not being able to eat as much healthy foods as you should, especially in the beginning of your pregnancy. You aren't going to get too many vitamins from those crackers you've been eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Talk to your prenatal physician about taking prenatal vitamins and which are the right ones for you. You may need some that are low in iron to prevent you from getting nauseous.

2. Don't Give Into All Of Your Cravings

It's the baby growing inside of you that is causing all of those cravings of food you wouldn't normally eat. Should you give into those cravings though? The answer is sometimes no. You could potentially gain too much weight that can be hard on your baby. It can be difficult on you as well if you gain too much weight. Talk to your prenatal physician about how much weight you should be gaining throughout your pregnancy, and what a healthy diet should look like.

3. Get Enough Exercise

Make sure you are keeping up with some sort of exercise, even if it's just a daily walk. Some exercises may be too much for your baby and for you as well. You shouldn't be exerting yourself, but you shouldn't simply be laying around either. Make sure you take the time to get in some exercise to keep both you and your baby healthy. Talk to your physician about what exercises you can do while pregnant and what exercises you should cease.

These are just a few tips to keep both you and your baby healthy during your pregnancy. Talk to a prenatal care professional about other prenatal tips.
