How To Get Motivated To Exercise When You Just Don't Want To

I used to tell myself that I would dedicate myself to getting healthy "later," but "later" never came. I ate very unhealthy foods and always told myself I would start eating healthier "tomorrow." I needed to start exercising, but I would tell myself I would join the gym "next month." When I reached a milestone birthday, I realized that I had set so many health goals that had come and gone in the past decade and had to finally get serious about getting healthy. I then began researching health tips online and found quite a few that inspired me to finally start eating healthy and getting into shape. I still have a ways to go, but I am finally now on the way to achieving my goals! I know so many health blogs inspired me, so I decided to create one of my own to share my health tips on!

How To Get Motivated To Exercise When You Just Don't Want To

You likely already know how important exercise is to a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are in great shape or are just starting your fitness journey, it can sometimes be difficult to find motivation to exercise. The following are some methods you can use to help get yourself in shape even when you do not feel like working out:

Find a Way to Reward Yourself

Nothing is more motivating than getting a reward for a job well done. When it comes to exercise, you can implement this same idea. Even though good health is an intrinsic reward for exercise, you might be motivated by small rewards as you do each workout, particularly when you are not feeling motivated. Little rewards, such as a healthy smoothie from your favorite smoothie shop, a nice cup of coffee, or a spa treatment at home are just a few ways you can look forward to your workout each day. As you develop these habits and associate them with a reward, you will begin to feel a consistent motivation to exercise.

Implement a Positive Mindset

When you are not feeling motivated, it can be hard to feel positive. When you are not feeling motivated to exercise, try to shift into something positive about the experience. For example, if the weather outside is sunny and beautiful, just think how nice it will feel to get some fresh air in the sunlight. You can also develop a positive mindset about how amazing you are going to look and feel after a good workout. You can even add visualization to your positive mindset shift. Doing all of these things can help break the habit of skipping the workout when you are not feeling positive or motivated.

Find Like-Minded People

Nothing can be more motivating when it comes to exercise than finding like-minded people to work out with. It is fine to exercise alone, but you often do not hold yourself as accountable as you would when you are working out with other people. You should find people who have similar goals as you. The people you work out with should be positive, uplifting, and want success for you as much as for themselves. You can talk, laugh together, and encourage one another as you all work on your own fitness goals. Surround yourself with those who will help you not only feel confident, but also give you the drive to want to do your workout each and every day.
