Non-Cosmetic Uses For Botox

I used to tell myself that I would dedicate myself to getting healthy "later," but "later" never came. I ate very unhealthy foods and always told myself I would start eating healthier "tomorrow." I needed to start exercising, but I would tell myself I would join the gym "next month." When I reached a milestone birthday, I realized that I had set so many health goals that had come and gone in the past decade and had to finally get serious about getting healthy. I then began researching health tips online and found quite a few that inspired me to finally start eating healthy and getting into shape. I still have a ways to go, but I am finally now on the way to achieving my goals! I know so many health blogs inspired me, so I decided to create one of my own to share my health tips on!

Non-Cosmetic Uses For Botox

You might be surprised to learn that there are a number of non-cosmetic uses for Botox injections. Botox is commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines in the forehead, the outer eye area, the sides of the nose, and corners of the mouth. Here are some other uses for Botox, or botulinum injections, that are unrelated to improving your appearance.

Migraine Headaches

Migraine headaches cause severe, unilateral, throbbing pain that is often accompanied by light sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and sometimes, chills or sweating. Narcotic pain relievers and vasoconstriction medications are typically used to manage migraines; however, they can cause serious side effects.

Instead of these medications, doctors are now using Botox injections to relax the muscles in the head and neck and to relieve pain. Botulinum is injected in the temples, the lower part of the head, and the back of the neck.

It can also be injected in between the eyebrows. Side effects, if they occur at all, usually involve minor redness and inflammation at the injection sites and occasionally, mild itching. One of the best features of botulinum injections is that they can stop a migraine headache before it starts. While you may notice significant improvement after only one treatment, you may need a few Botox treatments before your migraines become a thing of the past.

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating. It can cause extreme discomfort and lead to self-confidence problems. Antiperspirants do little to reduce excessive sweating in those with severe cases of hyperhidrosis.

Not only does hyperhidrosis affect the armpits, but it also affects the face, head, hands, and feet. Profuse sweating can also cause sweat stains to appear on your clothing, costing you money at the dry cleaners. If you experience profuse sweating of your hands, you may avoid social situations and shaking hands with people.

This can negatively impact your life, and because applying antiperspirants to your palms may be messy and uncomfortable, you might choose to explore other options, such as botulinum infections. After your treatment, you will feel more confident shaking hands with people and you will no longer have to hide your hands when they are dripping in sweat.

If you suffer from migraine headaches or excessive sweating, talk to your healthcare provider about how botulinum injections can help improve the quality of your life. After you have all the essential information, you can then make an informed decision about whether Botox injections are right for you.
